Weekly Digest August 12-18

What a week it was!

Our Compost Coordinator worked our Compost Collection program up to new speeds! 20mph, to be exact!

With the help of our electric-assist quad bike, we’re now doing our compost pickups in a greener, more sustainable way.

This bike isn’t just a usual alternative to cars—it’s also a fantastic way for participants in recovery to engage with the community, contribute positively, and enjoy outdoor exercise. 💪🌿

The best part? It’s accessible to those who may not have a driver’s license or need a low-impact exercise option that’s gentle on the heart, especially for those overcoming substance use challenges. This initiative is a win for everyone—reducing our ecological footprint while supporting recovery and wellness. 🌍💚

Emily, our AmeriCorps VISTA, is all trained up and ready to roll! 🚴‍♀️ It’s going to be an amazing year for local composting and community growth in Knox County!

We had a little hiccup when the café was closed (oops! 😅), but no worries—we were back at it with Part 2 of training: picking up full buckets, tying them down, dumping the compost, and cleaning up for the next round.

It’s going to be a BIG year for local composting in Knox County, and we’re thrilled to be reducing our ecological footprint along the way! 🌍✨
